CALIFORNIA BLUEBIRD RECOVERY PROGRAM UPDATE 12/14/2008

Happy holidays to all you blue birders.  There have been several changes since I last updated this site.

Don Yoder:

I am sorry to inform you that Don Yoder, founder and long-time director of the California Bluebird Recovery Program, passed away in July; a memorial service was held at his long time retirement community, Rossmoor, in Walnut Creek, Contra Costa county.  We are taking several steps to honor his memory.  First,  the trail that Don used to monitor at Rossmoor in Contra Costa County; has been renamed "The Don Yoder Memorial Bluebird Trail At Rossmoor" at the request of Bob Carlton, the current monitor and overseer of environmental activities at the Rossmoor retirement community. Second, I am working with several birding organizations to honor Don by supporting their effort to create educational materials for use in schools.  Their web sites and educational material will contain a dedication to Don.  We hope to consummate these projects in early 2009.

Board of Directors:

I want to welcome Jim Semelroth, our new editor for Bluebirds Fly!  He is an avid bluebirder and has impressive credentials editing newsletters.  Michael Spohn, our former editor, has retired from that position because of other demands on his time.  I want to thank him for his past work.

2008Annual Report:
Will be prepared in the first week of January and will be available on-line on the CBRP web site and distributed to current trail monitors and subscribers in the upcoming issue of Bluebirds Fly!
